Bob Edgson’s abstract paintings and prints are influenced by the qualities of light, atmosphere and colour found in the natural landscape. Highly structured and rhythmic, his work is often characterised by a square format and combines elements of formal measuring with intuitive decision-making.
The grid-like formations found in Edgson’s paintings translate perfectly into screenprint, a technique which is well-suited to precise, graphic imagery, whilst allowing the artist to experiment with infinite combinations of vibrant colour. Early experiments in printmaking with Kip Gresham, in Edgson’s words, ‘opened the door for subsequent ideas and development for me; it was a special time’. Edgson and Gresham have continued to collaborate developing a ‘spirit of enquiry’, resulting in series’ of prints that are hypnotic and nuanced.
Edgson has exhibited widely in the UK and lives and works in West Norfolk, UK.
