Jeff Lowe’s recent large-scale sculptures are shaped from curved aluminium sheets folded in around each other. The cut openings allow the viewer to look through the outer skin into a more intimate space within. These works explore volume, space and layering and are brightly coloured. For the artist, experimenting with screenprints was an obvious development, extending these works into a two-dimensional medium. The overlay of shapes and colours made possible through screenprinting allows for a revealing and blocking-in of many different layers. This echoes the experience found in the artist’s sculptural works.
Lowe has exhibited internationally including at the Hayward Gallery, London, the Serpentine Gallery, London, the National Gallery of Australia, Canberra and the Peggy Guggenheim Museum, Venice. He lives and works in London, Kent and the Algarve, Portugal.
