Mary Webb makes geometric, abstract paintings comprised of simple shapes including triangles, squares and rectangles. Sometimes titled after the places which inspired them, Webb’s works often use particular landscapes as their starting point.
Webb is a prolific printmaker having made numerous limited editions since the late 1960’s. The deceptively simple compositions, bold colour and clean edges of her unique visual language lend themselves perfectly to the medium of screenprinting. Webb previously collaborated with master printmaker Mel Clark for 40 years before working with Kip Gresham. In the pair of square limited edition prints that she has made at the studio in Cambridge, she uses a characteristically limited palette which is echoed in the titling of each work.
Webb has exhibited widely in the UK and beyond over the past sixty years showing work at numerous galleries including in group exhibitions at the Royal Academy of Arts and Flowers Gallery, London. Her works has been the subject of several solo exhibitions in the UK most recently at Hales Gallery in London in 2018. She has been the recipient of numerous awards including the Arts Council Award for travel and research in Italy in 2014. Her work is held in several notable public collections in the UK.
She lives and works in Suffolk.
