Rachael Clewlow’s works are visual representations of journeys which the artist has meticulously documented in diaries recording, in her words, everything from ‘the banal to the interesting to the freakish’. Clewlow’s system of logging information results in an artistic language that, although paying homage to artists such as Bridget Riley and Richard Long, is unique in terms of her translation of recorded data into abstract compositions. Vibrant and intricate, these ‘maps’ translate perfectly into the medium of screenprint which allows the artist to experiment with overlaying and colour achieving a flatness not possible in painting.
Clewlow studied at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. She has exhibited widely in the UK and lives and works in Newcastle upon Tyne.
