Taking inspiration from poetry and folklore, Sarah Dwyer’s expressive paintings, prints and more recently, experimental sculpture, have drawing and storytelling at their heart. Merging abstract and figurative language, Dwyer’s work has a spontaneous, playful quality; her lively shifting compositions are made using various media in a range of scales.
Dwyer began her collaborative partnership with Kip and the studio in 2020. Smaller in scale than much of her other work, the prints produced have a sense of softness achieved through the subtleties of the etching process. Her energetic drawings for this series of editions were translated to richly-textured etchings, she has taken a somewhat subversive approach to these in the hand finishing with watercolours and pastel.
Scale and speed are as rudimentary as the material and application in her work; an intimate relationship between decisive and intuitive action. With an emphasis upon linear forms, they feature variations of the vibrant palette and tempo of her paintings and recent sculptures.
Dwyer has exhibited widely across the UK, Japan and the US. Recent exhibitions include Black Chat, Sew Rib (Solo Residency Exhibition) at Unit 1 Gallery Workshop, London. Her works have also been shown regularly at Josh Lilley Gallery, London and Jane Lombard Gallery, New York. She has also shown at The Saatchi Gallery, London and The John Moores Painting Prize, Liverpool. She lives and works in London.
