Rooted in the convention of the amateur holiday snap, Trevor Banthorpe’s limited edition prints often start life as photographs of the urban landscape taken on his mobile phone. Inspired by artists such as Roy Lichtenstein, Banthorpe combines traditional and digital printmaking techniques to make his images. Whilst the artist’s use of a limited palette creates a sense of immediacy, he also uses layering techniques to place the viewer at a distance, so that seemingly mundane street scenes are viewed through a mesh of crossed wires.
Banthorpe studied at Sir John Cass School of Art, London, UK. He has exhibited widely in London, New York and Tokyo in group exhibitions including the Royal Academy of Arts’ Summer Exhibition, London. He lives and works in London.
