Jeff Lowe | 'In The Close Distance'
We are pleased to share with you sculptor Jeff Lowe’s second solo exhibition at Pangolin London. Featuring not only large and small-scale sculpture, this retrospective of work also includes the artist’s recent application to jewellery and printmaking.
Since the beginnings of his career, Lowe has employed an enthusiastic application towards sculpture, gaining significant recognition even as a student from the likes of Anthony Caro and William Tucker.
A fascinating reflection can be made upon how Lowe’s working environment heavily influences the aesthetic of his practice. Since moving to his Kent-based studio (The Limeworks) in 2016, there is a visible trend to the work produced; The curved architecture and rolling hills surrounding its location are clearly echoed in the shapes found within his three-dimensional sculptures and works on paper.
Sharing the dominating scale of his aluminium sculptures, the screenprints produced with Kip at The Print Studio replicate the distinctive cylindrical, free-standing forms of Lowe’s current sculptural practice. Layering combinations of a total of 12 different screens, the monoprints explore density and illusion with forms appearing to pull towards you and revolve.
The blend of work in an exhibition space pushes our awareness of how perspective changes how we observe.
‘In The Close Distance’ runs from 15 January - 22 February 2020
Lowe produced over 50 monoprints exploring combinations of colour, space and shape. Two selected combinations have been made into editions, one large and one - slightly more pocket-sized - small print (pictured below). We will be releasing details in parallel with the opening week of ‘In The Close Distance’, with the small edition to be listed on our website.
