Nigel Hall RA
Nigel Hall RA is internationally renowned for his large-scale abstract freestanding and wall-mounted sculptures often made from polished wood or steel. Exploring volume, weight and light through line and form, Hall’s practice investigates – in his words ‘movement through space’. Works on paper form a core part of Hall’s artistic output; the ideas that he articulates through his sculpture feed directly into drawings, etchings and screenprints. Hall often uses one carefully selected vibrant colour layered over monochrome forms in his printed images; the elliptical shapes and the shadows they cast gives these works a sense of the celestial, evoking planetary movements and the passing of time.
Hall has exhibited internationally, and his works are held in numerous significant public collections including MOMA, New York, Tate, London, the Australian National Gallery, Canberra, Tokyo Metropolitan Museum, and Tel Aviv Museum.A solo exhibition of Hall’s work was held at the Royal Academy of Arts, London, in 2011.
