Print of The Month: May 2020
Fiona Thomas works predominantly in printmaking locally in Cambridge, but also makes colourful paintings. Her works are heavily influenced by her environment with nature, landscape and architecture referenced across her work.
Segovia Aqueduct 2 directly associates with the Roman landmark located in central Spain. The soft colour palette and striking strip running through the print are perhaps a suggestion of the structure cutting across the Mediterranean scenery. The textures and impressionistic swathes of colour of this print is also seen in Segovia Aqueduct 1 (pictured below left). The monoprint-like mark making running vertically and horizontally across the prints are likely to mimic the texture of stone, the lines of the horizon and movement of water.
Limited edition prints from each of the series are available through the studio for £300 unframed.
